Introduction
A digital multimeter is a versatile and essential electronic instrument used to measure various electrical properties such as voltage, current, resistance and capacitance. Featuring a digital display, it provides clear and accurate readings, making it easy to interpret the results. Digital multimeters have largely replaced traditional analog meters, offering superior accuracy, enhanced reliability, and improved impedance handling.
Usage
One such example is the UNI-T UT58C, a low-budget digital multimeter. As soon as we unpacked it, we began testing its functionality, starting with its voltage and current measurement capabilities. However, after some time, the device couldn’t measure the current.
Repair
We opened the multimeter and began inspecting the PCB. We found that a fuse near the lower part of the board was broken. After noting its designator, we searched for a replacement. There was a low-budget version and a SIBA one available. The seller recommended the SIBA fuse due to its reliability, so we chose that one.

Note
To properly measure current, ensure the circuit is open before connecting the multimeter. Insert the multimeter probes into the circuit, so the current flows through the multimeter, effectively closing the circuit for the measurement.
